Merlene Emerson has has written to the Kensington Chronicle protesting at the proposed closure of the Post Office at WHSmith in Fulham.
In the letter, Merlene wrote:
"News that the new Fulham Post Office in WHSmith in North End Road is also set to close came as a total shock (your front page story 'It's Royal Fail' dated 6 Dec 2007).
"It is outrageous to think that the needs of Fulham residents are given so little consideration by the Royal Mail and by the Council.
"Only last week the Kensington & Fulham Council gave planning approval to a developer to build luxury apartments in the place of a well loved cinema on High Street Kensington. At that meeting the Royal Mail had divulged their own plans to do the same on a neighbouring site with no mention of any alternative provision for the planned closure.
"I am sure many of your readers are also aware that further north into Kensington, the post office in Westbourne Grove has already closed, against the wishes of residents from all over the Portobello area. And in Poland Road, residents of Westminster are still battling against the closure of their local post office.
"The Government claims there is no alternative to the closure programme. They are completely wrong. The Liberal Democrats have put forward a fully funded plan for an additional £2 billion investment in the Post Office that would create a thriving network.
"The Liberal Democrat plan keeps the Post Office Ltd in the public sector and enables Royal Mail employees to get a share in their company through a radical employee share ownership Trust, similar to the John Lewis Partnership. Royal Mail will take a new ownership model, with the sale of some of its shares providing the investment needed by post offices.
"This Liberal Democrat plan would enable us to open new post office branches where they are needed and keep the Post Office in the public sector.
"We would also give Royal Mail staff a guaranteed stake in their company through employee share holding and participation.
