It was reported in the Times (26th June) that a new 7 year deal with international company Serco means that residents in Hammersmith & Fulham should see improved services and that people can expect to have their rubbish and recycling collected on the same day for the first time.
However, in the same week a very different story emerged. Traders were quoted as lashing out at 'bully' council bosses who have brought in bizarre new rules on rubbish collection resulting in thousands of pounds of fines and threats of criminal action.
Complaints to their local Ravenscourt councillors have resulted in platitudes, putting the blame on the traders!
In the meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats have heard many complaints from residents in the borough about the new garden waste collection.
The Liberal Democrats believe recycling within the borough can be improved by getting the basic service right and educating the public. The Tories seem more interested in recycling as another way of raising revenues.
