Local Tories are making wild claims about Europe forcing Thames Water to dig up our green spaces for a super sewer. But even Tory Mayor Boris Johnson accepts a super sewer is needed to stop raw sewage floods in stormy weather. Local authorities and Thames Water - not Europe - will decide how and where the building work is done.
Lib Dem European spokeswoman Dinti Batstone, whose Hammersmith home was flooded during last year's storms, says: "Instead of passing the buck with Eurosceptic scare-mongering, the Tories should be using their powers to ensure that Thames Water carries out remedial work quickly, cheaply and with minimal disruption".
